Var Book Festival in Toulon: the major literary event of the year

How about taking some time out for a jaunt to the sea just before the holidays? The Terrasses du Bailli will be delighted to welcome you for a relaxing stay in an invigorating atmosphere by the sea, where you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy the coastline and immerse yourself in the world of literature. What a wonderful programme!

For this latest, eagerly-awaited edition of the Book Festival – running from November 19 to 21 – the Var Department has been keen to give top billing to a range of genres: novels, comics, essays and thrillers… in short, more than enough to re-stock your library with all the latest books on the market for young and old alike, and to immerse yourself in a relaxing read. Sitting comfortably on the sun lounger on your terrace with a view of the sea in a Zen-like, laid-back atmosphere or perched on a rock facing the Iles d’Or, this will be the perfect opportunity to devote yourself to turning the pages of your new acquisitions.

The Festival’s president, Daniel Picouly, won in 1996 with the “Champ de Personne”, awarded by readers of Elle, and later with “L’Enfant Léopard”, which earned him the Prix Renaudot in 1999. The Festival is a great place to meet people – writers, illustrators and screenwriters – and you can dive into the densely-packed output of 150 authors who have left their mark on 2021. This is a unique event punctuated by signing sessions, where you can also discuss and debate a particular theme, novel or comic book. A place, in brief, where you’ll be able to share your emotions whether you’re an adult or a child. A fine tribute will also be paid to Marcel Proust, which is sure to make you want to re-read this romantic writer à la recherche du temps perdu

So don’t just think about it – come and enjoy a literary stay on the Var coast at the Terrasses du Bailli, where you can find moments of pure relaxation, reflection and serenity in the company of the works you will have selected at the Book Festival.
