Art exhibitions waiting for you in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez this summer

Why not include a cultural dimension in your plans during your stay in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez this summer? From Le Lavandou to Saint-Tropez, here are four art exhibitions that will help you uncover the Var from a different angle.

Alfred Courmes: Seductive Provocateur at Villa Théo in Le Lavandou

Born in Bormes-les-Mimosas in 1898, Alfred Courmes spent his youth in Le Lavandou. He became a much-misunderstood artist as he developed a style of painting that swam against the prevailing tide. Today Courmes is recognised as one of the pioneers of pop art and narrative figuration, and La Villa Théo is currently paying homage to his work. Exhibition until September 10, 2022.

A Garden on the Mediterranean at the Domaine du Rayol in Rayol-Canadel

Take advantage of your visit to the Domaine du Rayol to discover a series of watercolours and drawings by Catherine Wilborg, who draws inspiration from the flora at the Jardin des Méditerranées and the fauna of Provence. Exhibition until September 26, 2022.

Signac and Saint-Tropez at the Musée de l’Annonciade in Saint-Tropez

Stroll through the village of Saint-Tropez and visit the exhibition honouring the famous neo-impressionist Paul Signac. The artist left a strong impression when he came ashore in the port of Saint-Tropez in 1892. A passionate sailor, Signac soon fell under the spell of the mythical village, which served as the inspiration for his watercolours. Exhibition until October 9, 2022.

The Dream of Ulysses at the Fondation Carmignac on the island of Porquerolles

Head off on an excursion to the island of Porquerolles where you can explore an exhibition that draws on Homer’s Odyssey. Legend has it that during the ten years he spent wandering on his return to Ithaca, Ulysses reached the shores of Porquerolles, where he fought a sea monster. A labyrinthine tour presents works of art inspired by Ulysses and his long journey home. Exhibition until October 16, 2022.
